Artist statement
I create to look beyond the surface and into what’s often left unsaid. The figures I paint carry a presence that feels familiar, something that stays with you even after the first glance.
While my work is grounded in realism, I often let the edges and backgrounds shift into something more fluid and abstract. This breaking away softens the boundaries between subject and space, allowing emotion and atmosphere to come forward.
Even in stillness, I’m drawn to movement, a quiet rhythm that makes the work feel alive. I want viewers to sense that energy and connect with it in their own way, whether through curiosity, memory, or recognition.
Ultimately, I’m more interested in creating space for others to find their own stories than in telling a specific one.

Artist BIO
Adriana Colonna is a Berlin-based fine artist and animator. She studied European Media Studies in Germany and later pursued a Master's Degree in Time-Based Media with a focus on animation in Austria.
After more than a decade working in animation for film and television across Europe, she returned to Berlin in 2022 to devote her time to fine art, creating work that felt more personal and lasting. Alongside her ongoing work in animation, her primary focus in the studio is oil painting, as well as charcoal drawings.
In each medium, she combines realism with more expressive, abstract elements. This approach blurs the boundaries between subject and background, creating images that feel open and layered, and inviting viewers to engage with them on a personal level.
