Artist statement
I’m interested in creating artworks that feel like they have a story of their own.
Much of my inspiration comes from literature and the feeling of getting completely lost in someone else’s story or emotional world. I like to bring a little of that feeling into my own work, creating spaces that feel familiar yet slightly removed from everyday life.
My work is mostly figurative and realistic, with a touch of melancholy. To create a moody, atmospheric quality in my paintings and drawings, I often let things become more expressive around the figures and parts of the subject. I use contrasts between muted and bold colors, soft and sharp marks, and realistic details with more abstract, dreamlike elements.
Artist BIO
Adriana Colonna is a Berlin-based fine artist and animator. She studied European Media Studies in Germany and later pursued a Master's Degree in Time-Based Media with a focus on animation in Austria.
After more than a decade working in animation for film and television across Europe, she returned to Berlin in 2022 to devote her time to fine art, creating work that felt more personal and lasting. Alongside her ongoing work in animation, her primary focus in the studio is pastel and oil paintings, as well as charcoal drawings.
In each medium, she combines realism with more expressive, abstract elements. This approach blurs the boundaries between subject and background, creating images that feel open and layered, and inviting viewers to engage with them on a personal level.
